KHG · SINGAPORE
Bringing Decades of Tradition Into a Modern E-Commerce Experience
Founded in the 1960s, Kim Hua Guan has grown from a humble Chinatown pushcart into an established Singapore Bak Kwa brand. I helped translate that heritage into a modern online shopping experience — connecting product discovery and checkout with delivery, self-collection, payments, and the real-world fulfilment behind every order.
The Project
Modernising the Digital Experience of a Heritage Singapore Brand
Kim Hua Guan began in the 1960s with a pushcart in the heart of Singapore’s Chinatown, built around the traditional craft of handcrafted and charcoal-grilled Bak Kwa.
Over the decades, the business has grown into three retail outlets supported by a modern food factory in Bedok, while preserving the craftsmanship and distinctive flavours that have shaped the brand across generations.
Now led by the second generation, KHG continues to balance tradition with innovation — introducing new flavours while evolving how customers discover and purchase its products.
The digital challenge was therefore about more than creating an online store. KHG needed an e-commerce experience capable of bringing a long-established retail business online while working around the practical realities of ordering, delivery, self-collection, payments, and fulfilment.

THE APPROACH
Designing E-Commerce Around the Complete Order Journey
For KHG, the customer journey couldn’t end at adding products to a cart. Every online order eventually becomes a real order that the business needs to prepare, process, deliver, or make available for collection.
I approached the experience around that complete journey — from discovering products and selecting quantities to choosing how the order will be received, completing checkout, making payment, and passing the necessary information into fulfilment.
Particular attention was given to delivery and self-collection, ensuring customers could clearly choose the appropriate fulfilment path without creating conflicting selections during checkout.
The result was an ordering experience designed around both sides of the transaction: simple enough for the customer placing the order, while capturing the information KHG needs to fulfil it.

WHAT I DELIVERED
An E-Commerce Experience Connected to Real Business Operations
The final solution brings together product ordering, fulfilment choices, checkout logic, payments, and order information within a WooCommerce experience designed around how KHG actually serves its customers and processes online orders.
01 — Product & Ordering Experience
Structured the shopping journey so customers can explore KHG’s product range, select their preferred options and quantities, manage their cart, and move naturally toward checkout.
03 — Checkout & Delivery Logic
Configured the checkout experience around KHG’s operational requirements, including delivery charges, free-delivery qualification, delivery information, and the details required to process each order correctly.
02 — Delivery & Self-Pickup
Created distinct fulfilment journeys for delivery and self-collection, giving customers a clear choice in how they receive their order while preventing conflicting selections.
04 — Payments & Order Management
Connected payment and order information with the fulfilment workflow, helping ensure the business receives the details it needs once a customer completes an online purchase.
THE RESULTS
A Digital Storefront That Connects Heritage With Modern Convenience
KHG now has an e-commerce experience that allows customers to discover and purchase its traditional products online while choosing how they want their orders to be fulfilled.
Beyond the storefront, the ordering journey connects customer choices with the information required for delivery, self-collection, payment, and order processing — helping the digital experience work around the realities of the business behind it.
For a brand built over decades of craftsmanship and customer trust, the website provides a modern way to serve today’s customers without losing sight of the heritage behind the products.
